The Laderchis

Rina, mother of Paolo I, was nevertheless a Laderchi of the Ferrara branch; another branch of the family existed in Faenza. It was Giovanni XIV Laderchi who during 1800 transported his family to Ferrara, so giving a beginning to this branch, of which, as will be seen, descend the Ruggeri-Laderchis. The Laderchi family had its place of birth in Emilia where from 1100 to 1900 their members occupied very important positions and roles: they were feudal landowners, warriors, ministers, diplomats, politicians, administrators of Faenza; sons followed their fathers in positions on the Council of Elders and, during the period that prepared and saw the Italian Revolution: patriots, conspirators, politicians, men of science, and patrons.
The activity of this illustrious family can be divided into two periods: The first runs from 1100 to 1558 in which they were landowners and Lords of the Castle and of the Tower of Laderchio in the Senio valley opposite the locality that is actually called Riolo Terme about 7 km from the Castle Bolognese.
