The family of the Wolkonsky Princes descends from the Princes of Tarussa who in their time descended from the Princes of Chernigov. The took the name of Wolkonsky from a fortress “Wolkona” that they owned. The descendants of this family occupied important posts in the State and had conferred upon them titles and honors.
The founder is the legendary Variagh Rurik. Among his descendants many were declared saints of the Orthodox Church: Saint Olga, Saint Wladimiro, Saint Michael.
Coat of Arms: Left side of blue with the figure of an armed angel with a shield and saber, right side of gold with a black eagle having a crowned head and long dagger. Ermine mantle, Prince’s crown.
Anna Wolkonsky (1737-1811) married Nicola Olenine: they were the parents of Alexis Olenine who in his time married Elisabetta Poltoratzky to whom was born Anna who went on to marry Theodoro Andrault de Langeron.
