Shantilov coat of arms. General Book of Russian Heraldry, Vol. III, p. 58

The origins of the Shatilov family date to the end of the XVI century.

Their surname was linked in the 6th Book of Russian Nobility in correspondence to the governments of Moscow, Orel, Tver, Kursk, and Voronezh.

The members of the families were state employees of high level. In the Book of Russian Heraldry it is said of them: “The Shantilovs served Russian governors occupying various official positions. In 7124 (from the creation of the world) (1616) they were compensated with the conferral of land ownership. This was confirmed by the certificates sent from the Department of Property and by data from the family tree posted at the Assembly of Deputies of Nobility in Moscow.”

The coat of arms represents a long loaf of bread and a foreshortened and clearly visible cross, in gold, on a field of red.
