The Lossev family belongs to the Moscovian nobility; they are marked in Book VI of the old Russian nobility and registered in the governments of Kharkov, Ekaterinoslav, Orel, Toul and Voronezh. In the XVIII century they were known as the richest and most educated family of the Government of Voronezh.
The General Book of Russian Heraldry says that “various Lassev served the Russian governors, holding important offices.” The first Lossevs to be mentioned are from 1598 and 1605.
Coat of Arms: An eight-pointed star and a lying moon, both gold, on a blue field.
General Alexis Lossev had a beautiful villa built at Alexeevskoye.
Daria, his daughter, brought it as a dowry to the Shatilovs and as an inheritance (the mother of Nicola Stael Holstein, who married Sophie Andrault de Langeron, was a Shatilov) to the brother of Nicola Stael Holstein, Anatole. Sacha Stael Holstein (son of Anatole) lived there with his wife Claudia Vetchenine in the early 1900’s, then came the Russian revolution and it was confiscated.
